Romania is the new 2023 world champion!
The Romanians defeated Uruguay in the final in three sets (5-7, 6-3, 6-4) and became world champions after winning all their matches.
Padbol has a new world champion. 18 countries from four continents gathered at the fourth edition of the World Padbol Cup, held from November 9 to 12 at the English Club in Santos, SP, Brazil.
The Romanian team, composed of Olivian Surugiu, Victoras Popescu, Rafael Vasile and Mihail Tiplic, won the eight matches they played to win the most prestigious tournament in Padbol and thus dethrone Spain, three-time world champion.
The champion’s path
Romania won all its group matches, after facing Uruguay (7-6, 6-3), Austria (6-0, 6-1), Italy (6-4, 6-4), Kuwait (6-0, 6-2) and United Arab Emirates (6-0, 6-2). In the Quarterfinals they defeated Italy (6-3, 6-1), in the Semifinals Portugal (7-6, 6-2) and in the Grand Final Uruguay, in the only match where they dropped a set (5-7, 6-3, 6-4).
